Why Add Woodlice To An Enclosure

Woodlice and other isopods are a fantastic addition to any enclosure. As well as adding interest, they can help you by cleaning up dead and decaying matter within the vivarium such as left over food and dead plant matter. They can also act as an occasional snack for a variety of reptiles and amphibians, providing naturalist feeding opportunities and behavioural enrichment for your pet.

Tropical grey woodlice and prefect for high-humidity enclosures so make a great clean-up crew for animals like day geckos, anoles, crested geckos and dart frogs.

How To Keep Woodlice

Whilst woodlice act as a clean up crew for your pet, they do benefit from a little extra feeding. This keeps them in perfect health and makes sure they pass on optimum nutrients to your pet should they end up as a snack. Give them a mix of supplements such as sprats and shrimps. As well as keeping your woodlice nutritious and healthy, it can help prevent them from munching on your live plants. 

You should also ensure your isopods have plenty of cover, with dried leaves and bark for them to mooch around under.
