The original Laguiole knife was made by ironsmiths in 1829, as a farmers tool. This farmers tool was refined into the Laguiole Steak Knife, which is used today by many famous French restaurants. The Laguiole with its gentle carving blade, the elongated pistol grip handle and small BEE set into the bolster has been the focus of many stories passed down from generation to generation. The BEE is cut out of steel and decorates the handle. The BEE originally came from an award following a courageous act during a campaign under Napoleon I, when the Imperial Emblem was given as a reward!
